Becoming
2007. Handmade Flax Paper and Cotton Thread.

In my continuation of the Becoming series, I have sewn together translucent skin-like paper into morphous forms that are suspended in air, floating like human sized sheddings. Although humans do not literally shed their entire skins, as snakes do, our skin shows the continual signs of age, illness, surgery and transformation. My sculptural forms are a testament to the continual growing and changing process of our bodies. By allowing the viewer to walk through an installation space dispersed with these dangling shells, I would like them to relate to the process of their own bodily transformation and potential.
